Flying/Gliding Days are considered mandatory activities for advancement in the program. Each cadet needs to have at least one flight per year (either in glider or powered aircraft) to be able to complete their level and be eligible for promotion.

For Fly Days, the squadron books one or two small engine aircraft and very experienced and qualified pilots to take groups of typically 3 cadets at a time up for a short flight. We fly out of the Experimental Aircraft hangar at the back of the Carp Airport and have access to the clubhouse for the day.

We usually have sports equipment with us so that the cadets are occupied while waiting their turn. Since the event is held locally, the cadets need not be at the airport for the full day, rather just for the time period of their scheduled flight.

The sponsoring committee sets up a small canteen and provides hot dogs, drinks, and snacks for a small fee. On colder days, hot chocolate is provided at no charge.

There is substantial cost to the squadron to book the planes for the day so it is imperative that those who sign up for the event partake in the event or provide the staff with sufficient notice so that the expenses may be managed effectively.
