Drill is a major team building activity within the cadet program. The cadets learn the technique of performing drill and when they perform together as a group it can be very impressive.

The drill team meets on Tuesday nights at the Glen Cairn Community Center to work on their drill at a higher level than is done in the regular training program. The drill team refine their drill and subsequently start practicing more advanced techniques for doing sophisticated demonstrations, and hopefully go to competition against drill teams in other squadrons. The drill team is also expected to set the example in the maintenance of their uniforms – the creases are sharper and the boots shinier.

Those with polished drill are invited to apply for drill team commander or 2IC (2nd in charge) – these are prestigious positions within the squadron. Those who have held these positions often find themselves working their way in to WO2 or WO1 ranks (the top cadet ranks) as they have exemplary dress and deportment and have had ample leadership experience.

At the annual parade at the end of the training year, the drill team does a demonstration to show what they have been working on for the year for all in attendance (parents, family, league representatives, leaders within the local community).

Participation in the drill team is definitely considered during the selection process for camps or other special activities.
