Purpose: To elect the 2012-13 Squadron Sponsoring Committee members and to confirm new and returning volunteers.  All parents are invited to participate in the election, to observe and to step forward as a new volunteer on the commitee.

Please note that some executive members and directors will be moving on after this year. Therefore, cadets need parents of all cadets but particularly junior cadets to come out and join the fun and dedicated group that will partner with Major Dixon and her staff to make 2012-13 another excellent training year.

No experience necessary – you may start out as a helper/volunteer and take on whatever level of effort and responsibility matches your interest and ability. If you cannot attend the election night, you are always  welcome to join as a volunteer at any time during the training year, or to help out at events.

Parents and guests are invited to attend 872 Annual Ceremonial Review, Saturday May 26. Details may be found in the following Invitation. Please RSVP to Maj Dixon and let her know how many seats you will require.

This is a culminating activity where the cadets get to show parents and friends what they have learned during the year, and also to allow us to honour outstanding cadets through awards.

We encourage you to come out and see this event!

INVITATION

The Review will be followed by a Reception and Static Displays by the cadets.

CADETS

This activity is MANDATORY for all cadets.

Cadets are to arrive for 0830hrs (8:30AM) dressed in appropriate civilian attire and bringing their Full Dress Uniform with Medals in a suit bag clearly labelled with their name, packed in a way to keep the uniform from getting wrinkled.

Cadets will change into uniform after lunch. Lunch (hotdogs,chips, pop) will be provided. Cadets will be free to leave after the complete cleanup of the facility is completed.

A practice parade is planned for Friday, May 25 from 1830hrs (6:30PM) to 2030hrs (8:30PM). All cadets should attend. Dress is appropriate civilian attire.

• May 16 – Parent Sponsoring Committee Elections: You are invited to participate in or to observe the annual election of members of the Parent Sponsoring Committee. Please note that some executive members and directors will be moving on after this year. The Squadron needs new parents to step forward and join the fun and committed group of parents who aim to make 2012-13 another excellent training year. All are invited to come lend a hand, particularly parents of newer cadets who represent the longer term future and viability of the 872 Squadron. No experience necessary – you may start out as a helper/volunteer and take on whatever level of effort and responsibility matches your interest and ability.  Election of the decision-making members of the Committee will take place in Room 208, AY Jackson High School starting at 6:45pm. Most volunteers also step forward at this time. Those who cannot attend the election are welcome to join as volunteers at any time during the training year.
• May 26 – Annual Review: The biggest day in the life of an Air Cadet Squadron! This is an advance notice to all cadet parents that we will be shortly requesting your participation by volunteering to bring a food platter for the post-Review reception. With over 100 hungry cadets, their families and numerous dignitaries attending, your generosity is very appreciated. More info coming soon from event coordinator, Dora Dalietos.

Also, a quick reminder that all parents may attend monthly Parent Sponsoring Committee meetings to observe and ask questions. Our next meeting is May 9 2012, Room 208 – AY Jackson High School, 6:40 pm.  Hope to see you there.

Thank you to all parents who attended our very successful Parent Night on April 25. I would also like to extend my gratitude to all the members of the Parent Sponsoring Committee, and to Major Dixon and her staff, who pitched in to make the evening informative and fun. A special congratulations to our newest Committee member, Mrs. Teena Miller, who generously donated a super Pampered Chef BBQ gift package, including slotted stainless steel pizza pan and accompaniments as the grand prize in our Door Prize Draw.

872 Kiwanis Kanata Royal Canadian Air Cadets

Cadets, staff and members of the Parent Sponsoring Committee are planning an informative and demonstration-filled evening.  Along with providing you with more information on the Air Cadet program and what your cadets can do to maximize what they gain from it, our Parent Night will also be a perfect time for the staff and parent volunteers of the 872 Squadron to show our appreciation for the support you offer to the cadets and squadron generally. We will even have a few door prizes to be awarded at the end of the evening.  We will proceed as follows:

• 1900 hours (7:00 pm) upstairs in Room 208, AY Jackson High School -  light presentations and Question & Answer period. (It will be a normal training night for most cadets.)
• 2000 hours (8:00 pm) - proceed to the balcony overlooking the “parade square” (cafetorium) to get a bird’s-eye view of a drill demonstration.  This impressive event is always a hit with parents and the cadets taking part. 
• 2015 (8:15 pm) – all will be invited to come down to the cafetorium to view displays set up on the perimeter of the parade area.  This will be your opportunity to talk with staff and volunteers about various activities that take place during the year.  During this time we will be serving light refreshments.

We are looking forward to meeting all cadet parents and guardians, especially those of our newer cadets and those aged 12 to 14 who can benefit from active parental guidance on how to plan and get the most out of their cadet career. 

There is no need to RSVP, however, if you can take a moment to let us know your intention to attend by email at psc@872-squadron-rcac.ca, that will help us plan for an appropriate number of beverages and treats.

There will be a Tag Day driver volunteer information meeting on Wed April 11th at 6:30 in the school atrium area.

Reminder: All money is to be collected at the time of order to be handed in with orders by March 28th.

Please also remember to put your cadets name on the order forms. Prizes will awarded for top sales.

If parents would like to attend, the cost is $35.00 (payable only if there is availability).
