Voluntary Contributions
Dear Parents/Guardians;
The sponsoring committee and military staff of the squadron do their best to field the finest program for your air cadet sons and daughters. From the feedback we have received, in this we are largely very successful. We have every intention to continue to provide this level of service for all of our cadets. We are sure you will agree that there are few, if any, other youth-oriented activities that can compete with the value offered by the 872 Air Cadet Squadron program.
As you may be aware, the cost of operating the program at 872 Air Cadet Squadron is not inexpensive. Of 872 Squadron’s annual budget of roughly $50,000, only about a quarter of that amount is paid for by the Department of National Defence. The sponsoring committee’s mission is to attempt to raise the remainder; this amounts to roughly $37,000.
One of the major expenses of each Air Cadet Squadron is the annual assessment levied by the Eastern Region of the Air Cadet League for each cadet in every squadron. This levy, amounting to $75 per cadet, covers pooled costs such as glider/tow plane maintenance, insurance and league administration requirements. For the 872, the total charge is roughly $8,400, absorbing nearly one-quarter of our committee’s fundraising efforts, annually.
To help reduce the impact of this levy on activities cadets enjoy, such as camps, fly days and celebrations, we annually ask parents to make a tax-deductible charitable contribution of a minimum of $75 to the Squadron at or near the beginning of each program year. As of today, 40% of the parents have responded to this request. It is our belief that that the low take-up rate is due to many parents not previously being aware of this annual request.
We thank all of those parents who have already made their annual donation of $75 per cadet. However, if you have yet to do so, it may be provided through a number of means.
These include:
- by credit card through PayPal by using the link provided below (you DO NOT need to have a PayPal account to make a payment, just click the Continue link above the credit card logos once you are on the PayPal page to proceed with your payment )

; or
- by cheque made out to ’872 Air Cadet Squadron’ and mailed to: Treasurer of 872 Squadron, 1 Stone Park Lane, Nepean, ON K2H 9P7. In the memo section of your cheque please write ‘Donation for League Levy‘; or
- by cheque made out to ’872 Air Cadet Squadron’ and handed to any staff member on any Wednesday night that the cadets are meeting. In the memo section of your cheque please write ‘Donation for League Levy‘.
Please note that a cadet’s participation in the Air Cadet program is not dependent upon this donation being made. Access to the program for all, including those for whom such a contribution lies outside the family’s financial capacity, is a valued principle of the Cadet movement. However, those who are able to contribute this $75, or any other desired amounts from time to time, will receive a tax receipt for their donation in addition to seeing their generosity strengthen the program that their own cadets enjoy.
Thank you.
The Sponsoring Committee of 872 Air Cadet Squadron
